Be it a cheeky lass or a cute granny, a maverick, a clique or a crowd – the right angle at the right moment can turn unassuming contemporaries into interesting personalities. The Republic of Poland, with its 38 million inhabitants, joined the European Union in 2004. The land rises from the 528 kilometer-long Baltic coast up to 2,500 metres in the Tatra Mountains. There are more than 10,000 lakes set in this densely wooded country. These forests provide a habitat for rare species such as bison, brown bear, lynx, wolf and elk. Polish culture is very diverse: traditional customs and local cuisine are preserved and maintained, particularly in rural areas.
